Defending champions Ranchi Rays go head-to-head with first time semi-finalists Kalinga Lancers, while Punjab Warriors play Delhi Waveriders in the other last-four clash of the 4th Hockey India League in Ranchi on Saturday.
Ranchi have shown a compact game and have been the most consistent team in the league. The hosts booked their semis berth winning seven matches and losing just three. Ranchi have been unbeaten at home this season and this will give them confidence ahead of the knockouts.
“We have played well so far and intend to continue doing the same way and not complicate things.” said Ranchi coach Harendra Singh.
Kalinga, on the other hand, have had an up and down tournament. The Lancers, who have been relatively weak in penalty corner conversions, however boast of the highest number of field goals (17) so far.
Delhi have been one of the most exciting as well as unpredictable teams in this edition. They began with consistent performances but then saw a huge dip in performance. Simon Child’s men, however, regrouped at the right time to clinch crucial encounters en route to the semis.
Defender Rupinderpal Singh and goalkeeper Devon Manchester’s form will be a big boost for the team.
Twice runners-up Punjab will be hoping to be lucky this time and they have the arsenal to last the distance. Boosted by the presence of India skipper Sardar Singh, they are among the favourites to lift the trophy.
