Shubhankar Sharma grabs lead with blistering 64

Indians took centrestage on Day Two of the $20,000 Take Solutions India Masters in Bengaluru, Shubhankar Sharma, defending champion Chikkarangappa S. and Himmat Singh Rai grabbing the top three places at the Eagleton course on Thursday.

The event, jointly sanctioned by the Asian Development Tour and Professional Golf Tour of India, saw Sharma of the DLF Golf & Country Club, Gurgaon, return a blistering eight-under-64 to top the leaderboard at 15-under-129.

Chikkarangappa, playing at his home course, posted a 66 and Himmat Singh Rai, another DLF GCC golfer, carded 67, to share second place on 13-under-131.

Round one leader Greg Moss of the United States, slipped to fourth on 12-under-132 after a sedate 70 on the day.The cut fell at four-under-140, one of the lowest ever on the PGTI. Fifty-one professionals made the cut, of whom 33 were Indians.

Sharma (65-64) moved up two places from his overnight T3 as he hit nine birdies against a lone bogey. The 19-year-old later said, “Putting holds the key this week and my putting has been good in the first two rounds.”

Rai (64-67) made six birdies against a bogey in his 67, while Moss had a relatively quiet round compared to his sensational 62 on Day One.
