Back-to-back titles for Vani Kapoor

Vani Kapoor returned a one-over par 73 in the final round to win the second leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour at the Kalhaar Blues & Greens in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

Vani Kapoor returned a one-over par 73 in the final round to win the second leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour at the Kalhaar Blues & Greens in Ahmedabad on Thursday. It was her second consecutive title, while Kiran Matharu finished runner-up again with a total score of 216.

Hero Order of Merit leader Vani started impressively with three birdies and a bogey. However, she could not sustain the momentum in the latter half, dropping a further four shots, but a birdie on the 15th proved vital for her to secure a single shot victory over Matharu. She had a total score of 215 after 54 holes.

Matharu made a shaky start but composed herself and hit two birdies along with an eagle to put herself in contention for the title. She added another birdie, but two consecutive bogies meant that she had to settle for a second place finish.

Panchkula’s Amandeep Drall carded an even par 72 on the second consecutive day to take third place. Her round included four birdies and two bogies. She also had a double bogey on the 9th hole to end on 218.

Kapurthala golfer Gursimar Badwal had a 5 over 77 in the final round for fourth place. She hit two birdies, but dropped shots on seven holes to end with a total of 227.

Delhi’s Ankita Tiwana was fifth with 231, followed by Kolkata’s Smriti Mehra (232) and Chandigarh’s Saaniya Sharma (234) in sixth and seventh place respectively.

From Ahmedabad, the Tour now moves to the historic Royal Calcutta Golf Club in Kolkata for the third leg to be played from February 2 to 5.
