Robin Singh's injury a concern as India face Nepal

India are sweating over the fitness of striker Robin Singh as they await a “tricky” Nepal in the last Group A match in the SAFF Cup here on Sunday.

Robin was stretchered off with a leg injury immediately after netting his second goal in the 2-0 win against Sri Lanka on Christmas Day and head coach Stephen Constantine is confident of the star striker’s availability.

“Robin’s X-ray shows it isn’t serious,” said Constantine. “He will be back.” India and Sri Lanka have three points each and appear favourites to reach the semi-finals while Nepal must defeat the hosts for a chance.

India are expected to play the same XI though Rowlin Borges, who made a difference off the bench, could push for a start in a three-man midfield.

Nepal’s conventional 4-3-3 could prove a test for India’s full-backs as teenagers Bimal Magar and Anjan Bista were menacing, despite not scoring, on the wings against Sri Lanka.

“They are a good side that was unlucky to lose the first match and it will be tricky,” said Constantine. The Englishman evinced hope of an improved performance from his boys who were held goalless by a resolute Lankan defense until half-time.
