India coach Stephen Constantine said that an MRI had revealed a knee problem that is a bit more serious than what they had expected.
“It is disappointing to lose him. The doctors have advised that he will need 10 days of rest before undergoing another MRI scan. It is a blow and a loss for us. He had started to score for the national team on a regular basis and is a hardworking guy,” Constantine said.
Robin had scored a brace against Sri Lanka in the Group A match here. With the injury to the striker, doors have opened for Holicharan Narzary, who had made his debut against Nepal earlier this year. However, the coach also has the choice to play Sunil Chhetri and Jeje Lalpekhlua in Robin’s position.
The guidelines of the SAFF Suzuki Cup say that India won’t be allowed to make any replacement for Robin. The strength of the squad at present is 19, which includes three goalkeepers.
