NorthEast United FC have re-signed one of their star performers from last year, Nicolas Velez, for the third season of the Hero Indian Super League.

NorthEast United FC have re-signed one of their star performers from last year, Nicolas Velez, for the third season of the Hero Indian Super League.

The 26-year-old Argentine was the top scorer for the Highlanders last year with five goals.

NEUFC owner John Abraham expressed happiness at having Velez back in the team for the second successive season.

“I think I can on behalf of our entire team say that we are very pleased to have him back. Nico is a crowd favourite and is someone who has people on their edge of their seats whenever he is on the ball. We hope that he will up his game this season and give us many reasons to celebrate,” he said.

Said Velez on the development, “Sometimes in life sad moments happen and they are not in our control, especially last year after being close to the play-offs... But football is an amazing and beautiful game and never ceases to surprise us. I am happy to be a member of the NorthEast United FC family once again.”

Raju, Pradhan head to FC Pune City Meanwhile, FC Pune City signed left back Yumnam Raju and winger Sanju Pradhan for the 2016 edition of the league.

Raju and Pradhan both played for NorthEast United FC in the last season.

Said FC Pune City chief executive Gaurav Modwel, “Pradhan has has the versatility and pace to match the best in the country; he will be a good addition to our attacking third. Raju is a solid and dependable defender. His focus and dedication is exemplary and he has a modest approach of a player who wants to give his best to the team.”

Raju, 26, made his professional debut with Churchill Brothers in 2011. During his stint with the Goan outfit, the Manipur-born player has an I-League title and a Federation Cup win under his belt. He also scored a goal in AFC Cup match Singapore club Home United FC.

Pradhan, on the other hand, has won two Federation Cups representing East Bengal, ISL title with Atletico de Kolkata in 2014 and was also a part of 2012 Nehru Cup-winning Indian team.
