With every passing day, strong reports emerge about Manchester United replacing Louis van Gaal with Jose Mourinho. Gossip columns are having a field day, going as far as putting out the details of the deal between United and Mourinho. But keeping speculation aside, United and Mourinho is a match made in heaven.
With all due respect to Louis van Gaal, United are better off under Mourinho than him. The team haven’t taken great strides under van Gaal’s regime. The fans are disgruntled with the style of football United employ, and worse, no trophies in more than three years at the club.
Mourinho’s signing would be a shot in the arm for the club that has been reduced to mediocrity. Nobody would argue with the fact that Mourinho has been a proven manager with multiple trophies to his credit. He is the same manager that guided Inter Milan to an outstanding Champions League victory. A section of United fans wouldn’t agree with the philosophy that Mourinho brings to the table. He prefers a strong emphasis on defense rather than playing attacking football but this pragmatic approach of his has helped teams to win titles.
United desperately need to reinvent their game, and Mourinho is the perfect man to bank upon to do the task. Agree or not, United’s present squad is capable of winning titles. They have got the right mix of young talents like Anthony Martial and Jese Lingard and experienced ones like Wayne Rooney and Bastian Schweinsteger and Juan Mata. It is very much evident from the past that Mourinho’s choice is always for a balanced squad rather than depending on one or two individuals. At present, United are bereft of game-changing players but possess a good team who have the ability and determination. So Mourinho will essentially inherit a squad that is close to his football paradigm.
Manchester United should grab the opportunity of bringing in Jose Mourinho because it will work great for both of them. United do not want go into obscurity like the way their arch-rivals Liverpool went in 1990s and Mourinho will be looking to prove his mettle after what happened at Chelsea.
