India coach Stephen Constantine has said that the level of physicality the Indian Super League offered was “poor” and the league tournament has not done anything specific to improve the fitness of the players in the Indian squad.
“From a physicality point of view, the Indian Super League has been poor.
“We have scientific data that proves five training sessions and a game in the ISL do not even equal an international match we are playing, which is unbelievable.
“The level of fitness and physicality of the ISL is not helping us at all. In fact it is hurting us,” said Stephen Constantine.
Constantine had criticised the ISL clubs earlier for not conducting sufficient scouting and picking up youngsters in their teams.
He also said that the failure of the ISL players to report to the Indian squad has not affected the team’s performance.
“I haven’t thought about them. From the moment they have not reported they are not in my head. All of the boys have performed very well.
“We are into semi-finals of the SAFF Cup. I think that is great for us,” he said.
“The 19 players we have now have all performed brilliantly.”
