Victor Diaz scored the only goal as Leganes defeated Celta Vigo 1-0 on Monday in the club’s first ever game in the Spanish top flight.
Diaz steered in from a corner on 75 minutes to hand Leganes victory on their La Liga debut, having won promotion to the top tier by finishing runners-up in Spain’s second division last season.
Leganes, founded in 1928, will host Atletico Madrid at their modest 8,000-seater stadium on the outskirts of the Spanish capital in their first home game next weekend before Barce-lona visit next month.
Meanwhile, Las Pal-mas stunned Valencia 4-2 with Croatian striker Marko Livaja netting a brace.
