The All India Football Federation on Thursday suspended Mohun Bagan coach Sanjoy Sen for eight matches and slapped him with a fine of Rs 10 lakh for making derogatory statements against the federation.
Sen had lashed out at the AIFF saying it has been “sold out” after his request for rescheduling an I-League match in January was ignored by the apex football body.
“Mr Sanjoy Sen, head coach, Mohun Bagan, is charged for making derogatory statements against AIFF. Sanjoy Sen, is suspended for eight matches and a fine of Rs 10 lakh is imposed on him as provided in Article 58 of the AIFF Disciplinary Code,” the AIFF said in a statement.
Besides, it has also suspended and fined Shillong Lajong’s goalkeeping coach Gumpe Rime.
“Mr Gumpe Rime, GK coach of Shillong Lajong FC is suspended for four matches and a fine of Rs 30,000 is imposed on him as provided in Article 50-1-a & 58 of the AIFF Disciplinary Code, respectively for the use of abusive language against the referee’s decision,” the AIFF said.
The decisions were taken by the federation’s disciplinary committee which met at Football House here.
Sen, after overseeing his side’s win in their first match of the Asian Football Confederation Champions League qualifiers against Tampines Rovers at home (January 27), wasn’t keen to play an I-League match against DSK Shivajians (January 30). Sen’s side had to fly out to China for their second qualifying round on February 2.
Sen had asked the AIFF to reschedule the match as he wanted his players to get rest. But the AIFF did not entertain the request, which led him to lash out at the federation.
