Shailene Woodley had a tough time when she was arrested at the Standing Rock protests, and she is now opening up about what a toll it took on her. She was arrested for protesting against the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline in North Dakota. She had also streamed her arrest live on Facebook.

The Divergent star told Marie Claire UK of the moment when she arrived at the jail, “I was strip-searched. Like get naked, turn over, spread your butt cheeks, bend over. They were looking for drugs in my a**. When you’re in a jail cell and they shut that door, you realise no one can save you. She added, “If there’s a fire and they decide not to open the door, you’ll die. You are a caged animal.”

Woodley turned off her phone for three months this year due to PTSD symptoms she and her friends had after the Standing Rock protests. She also revealed that she went into a “kind of depression” because of the trauma.
