The word “Stan” from Rap God Eminem’s song has been added to the Oxford English Dictionary.

Though Eminem’s song Stan was released back in 2000, it is still playing a huge role today. The song tells the story of Stanley “Stan” Mitchell who claims to be the biggest fan of Eminem. The term “Stan” has since been used by people to refer a celebrity’s obsessed fan.

JustJared.com reported that the Oxford English Dictionary now recognises “stan” as a noun meaning “an overzealous or obsessive fan of a particular celebrity”, as a verb meaning to “be an overzealous or obsessive fan of a particular celebrity”.

“Y’all know I stan for Katy Perry, so I was excited to see the artwork for her upcoming album,” is how Oxford uses the verb form in a sentence.
