Dhanush and Kajol both are both set to lock horns in VIP 2. Dhanush talks about approaching Kajol and subsequently working with her.

“While writing this film, I only had Kajol in mind for the role of Vasundhara. The team felt that she had not done any Tamil film for the past two decades and so we must approach her. We gave it a shot, and the rest is history,” Dhanush smiles.

Telling us about VIP 2, he says, “Kajol as Vasundhara is a tough cookie. Raghu and her world collides, and they have different ideologies. The plot revolves around their core beliefs and their disagreement with each other.”

He is delighted to share his screen space with Kajol. “The role wasn’t easy as I had to emulate the character’s body language and mannerisms. Working with Kajol was a delight as we complemented each other. She is a seasoned actor, and there is so much to learn from her,” he adds.

Talking about his equation with Soundarya, he continues. “I have known her for the past fifteen years. We are the best of friends and understand each other’s craft. Yes, we fight as writer versus director, but as an actor, I was very obedient and followed my director’s instructions,” he said.

“I would be lying if I said I did not feel bad when Shamitabh failed, but I was proud to be associated with a film like this. If it were easy to know the pulse of the audience, then all movies would be blockbusters. However, in Shamitabh I worked with legends and no one can take that away from me. I learned so much, and I feel I have grown as an actor and as a person” Dhanush says proudly about his last movie.

Dhanush loves the vibe of Mumbai and is grateful for the warm reception from the Bollywood Brigade. Whenever he is in Mumbai, he resides with Director Aanand L. Rai whose wife serves him the most amazing vegetarian fare every time.

“Bollywood has been great, and the fans have showered me with their love. I have made some great connections, and all this appreciation motivates me to do better. The distance between our film industries is no longer a geographical worry. The crossover of ideas has made us into one big family,” he says with gratitude.

“I love writing. And I love my family. However, due to hectic schedules, I don’t find ample time for both. My family is very supportive as they understand what it is to be in this industry. But when I am with them, it is their time,” Dhanush says.

Ask him if he’d ever do a biopic, and he has the last word. “If it is on Rajini sir, most definitely!”
