The newest short film that seems to be making a buzz in the virtual world, Lonely Girl, sees Riya Sen essaying the character of a lesbian, alongside Kyra Dutt. A first for her, Riya admits she wasn’t sceptical about taking this project up at all.

“I read the script and I loved it. It made sense to me and there was nothing vulgar about it; it was shot beautifully too. If there was anything vulgar about it, I wouldn’t have done it,” she says. “I’ve been offered many lesbian characters in Bollywood before, and I declined them all, because they didn’t make sense to me. With this film, it keeps the audience engaged, right from the beginning.”

Riya, who had made her Bollywood debut in 1991 with Vishkanya, feels that she should’ve entered the industry now, when filmmakers are in the experimentative mode. “I joined the industry when I was very young, and I probably didn’t fit into it then. I should have now, when I know what I’m doing. There are may different kinds of subjects now, that weren’t there back then,” she explains.

Riya, who is often seen as a glamorous girl, was seen in a dark role in Lonely Girl. The actress says that she had always wanted to work on such a character. “In Bollywood, unfortunately, I was getting the same offers of sexy and glamorous roles. I was being tagged as a cute, sexy girl. Meanwhile, I was getting better offers in Kolkata,” she adds.

Meanwhile, the Bengali beauty also says that she’s under immense pressure from her family to settle down soon. “I would love to settle down, but I’m not dating anyone,” she smiles. “I’m open to dating someone.”
