Kalpana’s last wish

Independent filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi passed away this weekend, leaving her dream of making a film about her partner, Bhupen Hazarika, unfulfilled.

Hazarika, an acclaimed musician and a Dadasaheb Phalke Award-winner, passed away in 2011. And in 2013, Lajmi announced that she planned to direct a film about him, with Pooja Bhatt playing her. She also said that she and Mahesh Bhatt were in the process of penning the script.

The project was titled Dhumuha: The Storm, and Pooja had then said, “Kalpana Lajmi has offered me the opportunity to play her in the film, and I am flattered by the offer. If at all I get back on the treadmill and get into shape, it will be for a film like this. Right now, the screenplay is being written, so let’s see.”

But it looks like that the film may never see the light of day, unless Pooja and Mahesh decide to go ahead and make it themselves.
