The trailer of Mission Mangal has got a thumps up from the audience, and the film’s ensemble has set the stage for it to be a blockbuster. Apart from the Hindi film actors, audiences will also see south actress Nithya Menen in the film.

And director Jagan Shakti reveals why he wanted Nithya for this film, which is not even a solo project. “The film is based in Bangalore, and the idea was to add some local flavour to it. But it’s still predominantly a Hindi film, so you still wanted Bollywood stars. I wanted someone like Nithya, who is a terrific performer, and will also bring the Bangalore flavour to it. She is a brilliant performer,” he shares.

For Nithya it was a great experience working in Bollywood. “I am so glad that Mission Mangal is my first Bollywood film. I always wanted to do a good film, and I loved working on this one. The team is great.”

The film, produced by Cape of Good Films, Fox Star Studios and Hope Productions, also stars Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Sonakhsi Sinha and Taapsee Pannu.

Jagan further reveals how he managed to get so many stars under one roof. “I believe it is not easy to get anybody together, but you also have to give justice to every character. You will have to keep their stardom in your head as well, so you will have to balance it out. You just can’t take them and not do justice to it,” he says.

“I feel that if you have big stars, the film will reach a wider audience, and any filmmaker would want that. I just wanted to do this film and didn’t have any plans, but when stars came on board it was like icing on the cake. Having said that, the good film also works with lesser-known stars.”
