She will make you laugh, she will make you think, she accepts her flaws and she makes a point with ease. That’s what sets Twinkle Khanna a class apart from other celebrities. Despite being superstar Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia’s daughter, Twinkle has no compunctions about admitting that acting is not her cup of tea. And with her books as Mrs. Funnybones being the new rage among young bibliophiles, she seems to have more than made a comeback into the limelight.

“I think if you are honest about yourself only then you will grow otherwise, how will you evolve? If you are going to be blind to your own flaws then there is no point I think it’s the most sensible thing and I believe logic and sense is what moves my world,” she says. “I always had more interest in the literary, and the world of design and that’s what I have always loved to do as a child as well. Trying my hand at acting was because I came from a particular background, so I was offered movies ever since I was 13 and lot of people told me this is the time you should try. However, I wasn’t passionate about it.”

Twinkle, who is now an author, entrepreneur, brand ambassador and producer, is also one of the most active members of the Twitter community and is known for her classy retorts to trolls. Though seemingly imperturbable, Twinkle admits that if she respects her critic, their feedback will definitely leave an impression. “Criticism will hit me if it is from somebody whose opinion or work I respect, or if there is something valid in that criticism. In those cases, I look at it carefully. I examine it to see if there is any truth in what they are saying. As for trolls, who can’t even spell my name properly and say whatever they want — I really don’t care,” shrugs the 42-year-old.

Twinkle’s candid nature is not just bound to the social media. Indeed, she is known for not being someone to mince her words. Ask her about how difficult it gets to be so real as a celebrity constantly in the limelight and she says, “I think it just about your nature. For  me, this is how I have always been. It may not have paid off in the  beginning when people would judge me for speaking my mind, but I guess finally, after decades, it’s paid off. Now, people see me for who I am and accept me that way. That in itself is a great thing because I don’t have to pretend to be like anyone else.”

The producer has a number of new projects lined up for her in the upcoming year. Not only is she producing the much-talked-about Padman, she has also turned brand ambassador for L’Oreal Professional, which she admits to having used for years. Ask her about her projects and she says, “I am a very practical person by and large, and as a producer, efficiency is very important. I have a wonderful director R Balki who comes all prepared so I don’t have to worry about too many things. As for L’Oreal, I think it was just a natural progression for me.”
