The recent triumph of Congress president Rahul Gandhi at the assembly elections is expected to bring a ‘deep and serious’ impact on the forthcoming biopic of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh that is near its completion.

Titled The Accidental Prime Minister, the film featuring Anupam Kher in the role of Dr Manmohan Singh will benefit immeasurably from the Congress’s triumph in the North Indian states.

A source from the film’s team says, “We are postponing the release from next Friday, to the first week of March. Post the assembly elections there are seismic changes in the country’s political scenario. Till the other day, there was no viable opposition in the country.  After the elections, the Congress has emerged as a strong force. Rahul Gandhi is no longer the butt of memes and trolls. Everyone is taking the Congress seriously now. Our film is most certainly going to benefit from the shift in the political dynamics.”

According to a creative source from the film’s team, The Accidental Prime Minister is based on the book by political commentator Sanjaya Baru. It will take a revisionist look at a Prime Minister who scarcely spoke but was hardly the non-thinking person he was made out to be.

“We are now looking at a much larger release of the film. The mood in country is now pro-Congress. By postponing the film by two months we hope to consolidate interest in the story of Manmohan Singh whose intellectual silences were misunderstood by his opponents,” the source reveals.
