Priyanka Chopra to be face of Assam tourism

Guwahati: The BJP-led alliance government has roped in Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra to make her the brand ambassador for tourism in Assam. The actress will promote the brand entity — “Awesome Assam”.

Informing that Priyanka will visit the state on December 24 to address an International Tour Operators meet, Assam tourism minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “We have signed an agreement with Priyanka Chopra and she will be the brand ambassador of the Assam tourism for next two years.”

Asked about terms and conditions, Mr Sarma said, “The Bollywood actress will not charge anything for the assignment. She will take professional charges for the work that she will be asked for photo shoots and television commercials.”

Asserting that the state government intends to its campaign on global forum, he said, “We are preparing to present the potentials of Assam tourism before the global audiences. The stress would be given on countries, which have historic connection with us, like the United States, England and Japan.”

The minister also clarified that they earlier tried the option of engaging cricket maestro, Sachin Tendulkar, Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor, actress Depika Padukhone among others. The minister said that Sachin had several prior commitments so he refused.
