The dry spell for sequels in Bollywood continued as the two films performed way below expectations.

Mumbai: It might be raining sequels, but the numbers aren't as generous with them. With only Akshay Kumar's 'Housefull 3' managing to be successful this year, the year has generally been disastrous for sequels and franchise films.

October, especially, saw three sequels release, and all three have failed to live up to expectations. While Farhan Akhtar and Shraddha Kapoor's 'Rock On!!2,' was a colossal disaster, barely managing 1.7 crore rupees approximately on opening day, hopes were high from John Abraham and Sonakshi Sinha's 'Force 2,' and Anubhav Sinha's 'Tum Bin 2'.

But the two have barely managed to stay afloat, with the Abhinay Deo helmed 'Force 2', managed a meager 5.25 crore rupees approximately, on Day 1, and barely scraped through 6 crore rupees approx., on Day 2, as per Box-office India.

Anubhav Sinha's 'Tum Bin 2,' headlining Neha Sharma, Aditya Seal and Aashim Gulati, managed a dismal 1.45 crore rupees approximately, in two days.

The films recovering their investment seems to be a tough ask, unless a miraculous word-of-mouth generated turnout keeps the collections steady and consistent. That itself is highly improbable, since the general critical response has not been too positive.

With Vidya Balan's Sujoy Ghosh helmed 'Kahaani 2:Rani Durga Singh' set to release on December 2, the makers must be tensed enough with the disappointing response to sequels. Or is the blame going to shift to demonitisation, again?
