‘What crime has maasi committed?’

Vidya Balan undoubtedly gives a 100 per cent to the character she plays, as well as the promotional activities of the film she is part of. Capable of carrying an entire film on her shoulders, she often opts for women-centric roles. Her upcoming flick, Kahaani 2 is one such.

Vidya believes that the poster, in which she is ‘Wanted: For Kidnapping and Murder’, has worked brillinatly. Curiosity amongst her fans and even the public seems to have grown, with people wondering what crime she could have committed. Even her own niece and nephew were not spared. When they spotted the poster first, they too were very curious to know what Vidya had done. “When my niece and nephew came home, they asked my sister inquisitively ‘why is maasi wanted and what crime she had committed?’” says the actress, adding, “My sister simply retorted ‘we will have to wait and find out what crime Vidya has done’. Instantly, they said ‘Maasi cannot do anything wrong’. The very fact that they feel I can never do any wrong was so overwhelming for me. Also, this made me feel that the promotional tactics are working in favour of the film.”

Talking about the importance of promoting a movie, Vidya says, “I love working on the film as well as the promotional activities, once I give my nod to the project. For instance, my interviews will appear in newspapers and on television. Unless we promote the film with interesting and innovative ideas, the public will not be attracted to it. I always support the marketing team to the best of my ability.”
