It looks like Sanjay Dutt has paid a visit to director Ashutosh Gowariker. While there’s nothing unusual in that, here’s the back story.

Not too long ago, director Omung Kumar made two biopics, Mary Kom and Sarbjit. He then went on to make Bhoomi with Sanjay, but the film flopped. The actor, whose photoshopped image as Maharaja Jam Sahib Digvijaysinhji Ranjitsinhji, in the proposed film The Good Maharaja emerged, refused to work with Omung.

The Maharaja ruled Nawanagar in British India, and saved the life of almost 640 Polish children by providing them shelter during World War II. Interestingly, Ashutosh has acquired the rights of his story, after he met the ruler’s family, and not Omung.

Says a source, “Omung’s producer Sandeep Singh had also met officials in Poland, and planned to shoot the film there. But Sanju backed out after Bhoomi flopped. His meeting with Ashutosh makes it clear that he’s keen to do the project, though, and hence the meeting. However, one isn’t aware of what transpired in the meeting.”

So, will Sanju get to be the king, and if he’s switch allegiances, still remains to be seen.
