Post-demonetisation, CBFC goes soft
Several films in the post-demonetisation period have sailed through the CBFC screening without major cuts.
Demonetisation is proving to be beneficial in the short run — for some people at least. The Tum Bin team, for instance. Anubhav Sinha’s Tum Bin 2, a distant sequel to his 2001 film Tum Bin, has been granted an ‘all-clear’ (no cuts) by Central Board of Film Certification.
Says a source, “Seeing the tough times that our movies are going through, the CBFC has decided to relax the rules as much as possible to ensure producers have a smooth release.”
Several films in the post-demonetisation period have sailed through the CBFC screening without major cuts. The latest to benefit from the mood of leniency that looms supreme is Anubhav’s.
Says the director, “It was always meant to be a clean, family film. I was pretty certain that the CBFC would grant us the certificate with no cuts.”
Anubhav’s fears, however, are different. “Though I’ve made a good film, I am depressed because people don't have the money to pay for cinema tickets. And pirated DVDs will show up everywhere a day after my release.”
