The actor-producer has reportedly abandoned the project after taking its commercial viability into consideration.

Earlier this year we heard that Aamir Khan was planning to make a mega-budget multi-part movie series based on the Mahabharata, with a cast full of A-listers. Then, we heard that the actor-producer had changed his mind and decided to turn the epic into a web-series featuring fresh faces.

Now, it seems the project has been shelved altogether, if reliable sources are to be believed.

“After weighing the pros and cons, Aamir Khan has decided not to make a movie or series based on the Mahabharata. For one, it would become controversial. But more importantly, the scale at which the project was being planned was not commercially viable. He would have to set aside five years for the project, which would mean losing out on at least three feature films. So there’s going to be no Mahabharata,” a source reveals.
