Shabana’s trip down memory lane

Shabana Azmi made the cinema buffs’ day, when she tweeted old photos from Cannes where she had gone in 1976 to promote her film, Nishant. The black-and-white photos show the actress, looking resplendent, as she stands with co-star Smita Patil, both of them sporting saris. Director Shyam Benegal stands between the two in a photo, which Shabana captioned, “In Cannes1976 for Nishant in official section. The simplicity of it all. Film was important not the clothes!” In another photo, all three are involved in an intense discussion.

Much to the delight of the twitterati, Shabana also shared her experience at the film festival. “V had no money so Shyam made us walk down d promenade in saris n ask ppl  who turned in curiosity to watch our film.it worked house was full. (sic)”
