Mumbai: A musical concert of A.R. Rahman in London last week unfortunately, had an unexpected epilogue on social media with several audience members criticising him for playing a number of Tamil songs as part of his set.

However, Bollywood superstar Priyanka Chopra backed Mr Rahman, terming the criticism of the Oscar-winning composer on social media as “rude”.

“That’s rude. I don’t have knowledge about it so, I can’t comment further because if I will say something, you guys will write a lot. So, all I will say is that it was rude,” Priyanka Chopra said. She is currently in Mumbai to promote her Marathi film Kay Re Rascalaa in Mumbai on Friday.

The actress who is also extremely close to the North-east expressed her concerns over Assam.

“I have spent a lot of time in North-east because my uncle was posted there. The fashion scene in Assam is very progressive, it’s a beautiful area. But when I was shooting for film Mary kom, I realised that North-east is ignored in a way. When it comes to talent it’s not encouraged much. So it became very important for me to work with Assamese talent,” Priyanka Chopra said.

“So I am making a film in Sikimese and Asameese, we have also teamed up with the government the films. Recently, the state was hit by floods so we have been discussing about what we can do to help the floods victims. There is a system which can be brought in. My heart has always been close to the place. North-east is a very important part of India and it should be encouraged,” she added. The death toll in Assam’s floods rose to 50, with five more people killed on Thursday.
