Ashutosh Gowariker has often delved into period dramas. The Lagaan filmmaker’s movie Jodhaa Akbar that also featured a Rajput princess faced backlash. And now, Ashutosh’s next film on the commander Sadashivrao Bhau  may face some controversy.

While Arjun Kapoor has been locked in to play the role, the filmmaker has been in talks with Sanjay Dutt to essay the role of the Afghan King Ahmedshah Abdali.A trade source explains, “Abdali was an invader.

He defeated the Marathas in the third Battle of Panipat in 1761 C.E, which became a turning point in India’s history. So, Sanjay has been in repeated meetings with Ashutosh to ensure that the film does not get into controversies.”

Ajay Devgn incidentally is also making a film on a Maratha warrior Tanaji Malusare where he pays the lead role in Tanaaji. He is ensuring that the script does not distort history.
