Karan Johar loves making his films in foreign destinations, and his magnum opus Takht is no different.

Karan Johar has an uncanny habit of including the best of foreign locales for his films, right from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which had locations in Scotland as well as Mauritius. Meanwhile, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham was shot in England, Egypt and the Red Sea, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna in New York City, My Name is Khan in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Nevada, and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil in Paris, Australia, England and Austria.

And while his next film Takht is fully set in India between the 17th and 18th century, the filmmaker is taking cinematic liberties with the location. He was on a recce for the film across Rajasthan and other locations in the world as well to ensure that he gets the right locations to match his story.

“He cannot shoot the films on the streets of London or New York. But then Karan is in love with foreign destinations so much that he is looking out for the best-looking locations to match how beautiful destinations in India looked during the Mughal era. You cannot match all those locations in the India we have today, hence he had to look abroad for locations. So apart from the sets, and Indian locations, European locations laden with mountains and beautiful locales will adorn the screen when Takht releases,” informs our source.

Incidentally, even his debut film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was set in India, but we saw Scotland and Mauritius in the film.
