Sanya’s dying to dance

Sanya Malhotra has delivered powerful performances in her first two films — Dangal and Pataakha. As she gears up for the release of Badhaai Ho, the actress reveals that she’s dying to do a proper dance number.

For those of you who don’t already know this, Sanya actually choreographed the song Sexy Baliye in Secret Superstar, but she hasn’t done the whole Bollywood song-and-dance routine herself.

“I am dying to do a dance number. I am a trained dancer and I love dancing. I want to experiment with something in that space. Though I am not a choreographer, Advait (the director of Secret Superstar) said to me, ‘Let’s do a promotional song with Aamir,’ and we did it,” she says.

Talking about her upcoming release, Sanya says that she was so impressed by the script that she gave the project her nod without a moment’s thought.

“I didn’t even take a single day to think over it. When the script was narrated to me, I said yes to it immediately. This is something that’s out of the box, something we have not seen before, and it came as a surprise to all of us,” she says, adding, “I don’t know why the subject is still considered a taboo in our society. It’s after a very long time that Bollywood is coming out with a film that you can take your entire family to watch. Writers are doing such an amazing job these days, they are coming out with great scripts.”

And though she’s only three films old, Sanya says that she’s already a very choosy actress.

“A film has to be creatively exciting, and I should feel some connection to the script. I like to take up challenges. But sometimes I don’t connect with a film, and when that happens, I make an instinctive decision,” she says.
