Arjun Kapoor and his half girlfriend

Actor Arjun Kapoor, who unveiled the trailer of his upcoming film Half Girlfriend, along with Shraddha Kapoor, says that he can relate to the storyline, because of one of his own unfulfilled romantic experiences.

“I liked a girl, but I thought I’d take a couple of weeks to ask her out on a date so that she’d be more comfortable with me. It was a very filmy moment. I wore my best clothes and it was her birthday, so the timing seemed just right,” the actor reminisces.

The story doesn’t have much of a happy ending, though. Arjun adds, “When she reached, she came along with another guy and introduced him as her boyfriend. She said that he had just asked her out that very day. If I’d just asked her four hours earlier, she would have been my girlfriend. After that, I couldn’t speak to her because things were too awkward. So, the connection was left incomplete. Eventually, I reconnected with her. She’s happily married in England, and I am happy for her. But, the incident definitely helps me relate to the story of the film.”

An adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s novel of the same name, Half Girlfriend features Arjun and Shraddha in the lead roles.
