Mumbai: A day after actor Tanushree Dutta submitted a written complaint against actor Nana Patekar and others for allegedly sexually harassing her in 2008, the Oshiwara police began an inquiry into it, not ruling out the possibility of questioning those named by her. The police will conduct a thorough inquiry based on what has been put up in the application. The officials, however, refrained from commenting on whether they would summon Mr Patekar and others named by the accused.

The officials said that a normal procedure would be followed as per the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) to inquire into the matter. The police said that they would procure the raw video camera shots of the time Ms Dutta claims Mr Patekar, choreographer Ganesh Acharya, producer Samee Siddiqui and director Rakesh Sarang targeted her during the shooting of the movie in 2008.

“We have not registered an FIR in the case yet. The inquiry is underway and the procedure will be followed,” said Shailesh Pasalwar, senior inspector of Oshiwara police station.

The officials said that the probe is critical in the complaint, as it will lead them to conclude if it amounts to criminality. The police will also try to locate those persons who were present on the set of the said film in 2008 and question them.

The application submitted to the Oshiwara police stated that Mr Patekar allegedly behaved inappropriately and he grab-bed Ms Dutta by her arms and pushed her around under the pretext of teaching her dance steps. Ms Dutta further claimed that she complained abo-ut it to Mr Acharya, Mr Siddiqui and Mr Sarang the same day.

However, after the shoot began after an hour, Mr Acharya told her that there were changes in the steps and now Mr Patekar was part of it and he would have to touch Mr Datta while shooting the dance steps.

Officials said that these and other specific allegations into the incident will be probed and a final decision on an FIR will be based on the findings of the inquiry report.
