Want to do credible work, says Rakul Preet

Rakul Preet, who kickstarted her Bollywood career with Yaariyaan in 2014, is ready to be seen in another Bollywood flick De De Pyaar De, alongside senior actors Ajay Devgn and Tabu.

In the movie, the 28 year old actress will be essaying the role of a younger girlfriend of a married older man, played by the 50 year old Ajay. Talking about her times on the sets and working alongside Ajay, she says, “We all are professionals. It is very robotic on film sets, one moment you are laughing, crying, romancing, and action. It is all structured in our head. As professionals, it is the emotion that you give as per the demand of the script. Ajay sir never made me feel like I was new and that he is a seasoned actor. Everyone was welcoming. If I was nervous it would show onscreen and people are talking about the chemistry.”

De De Pyaar De was also embroiled in a controversy for casting Alok Nath who was accused in the Me Too movement. Reacting to it, Rakul reiterates what the actors and the makers have already said. “It was shot much before. People have already given their clarification and I would not like to comment on it. The makers and Ajay sir have already commented on it, ” she says.

While the actress started out her Bollywood journey in 2014, she has only starred in three Bollywood movies so far. The big-eyed beauty has made herself quite a star in down South. But the actress claims that it’s not a conscious decision. “When I did Yaariyan, I was very new; I was not aware of the film industry, and I was very young. I had a Telugu film that released two months before Yaariyan and it turned out to be a huge hit. I had big film offers there, so I decided to do that. It was not a conscious break,” she reveals.

Adding further, Rakul reveals her ambition is to have quality work to her credit. “I want to keep doing good films. I can work for 24 hours. I hope people want to see more of me as much as I want to be in films. At the end of it all, I want to have some great films to my credit, irrespective of which language it is in. I would like to explore that more here (Bollywood),” she says.

Having worked in both film industries, the actress reveals that there is no shorter way to success and money as struggling is part and parcel of that journey.  Talking about it, she says, “There is always a struggle, nothing comes easy. Sitting and cribbing that this person got it easy does not work; each and every person has to struggle. There is beauty in those struggles as you are working towards something that you want to get. You know the shelf life is lesser (for heroines) so you want to push yourself more as you want to do better work.  I am not running for money, money is something that follows.”

Elaborating on it, she gives the example of her successful stint in the South movie industry. “I did not become big in the south just like that, I had to work towards it. The fact that you do not get it easy makes you love and respect your work more. If I want to do a Dharma Production film, of course, there is a struggle to get one. There are so many people competing for it. I am working towards it. Whatever is meant for me will happen,” concludes Rakul.
