She may not have skyscraper cheekbones and naughty pout like some B-town newbies but Pooja Batra has had her share of hits and misses in the 90’s. Fed up of the “foreign return” roles that she essayed in several films, Pooja is back on the big screen playing a police psychologist in director Vijit Sharma’s Mirror Game, which will be released this Friday. “I was typecast as ‘foreign return’ girl when I was in India. As an actor we are supposed to morph into different characters and that’s the fun,” says Batra, adding, “If you continuously do the same thing then it’s redundant.”

Batra, acted in films like Virasat, Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya, Haseena Maan Jaayegi among others before moving to the US.

The leggy lass feels that not too many films are being written for female leads in Bollywood. “I would have been happier had I got better offers. They turn around and say an actress can’t sell a film. But if a Mary Kom, Kahaani comes your way and if you have strong script and good filmmaker then I don’t see why it shouldn’t work,” she says.

Pooja feels thrillers don’t work in India because of a poorly-written script. She says, “I love thrillers; but they don’t do well because it’s not written well,” she concludes.
