Foodies in the city should gear themselves up for some scrumptious delights this month. DineFest — an event that allows gourmands to enjoy a full course meal at a fine dining restaurant for a set price — kicks off today. To be held till August 21, DineFest focuses on serving a three-course meal at a cost that is much lower than a regular meal at a restaurant. Both lunch and dinner with ample vegetarian and non-vegetarian options will be offered at '600 in Mumbai.
The event was piloted in October last year, featuring 30 restaurants across Mumbai and Delhi with over two thousand diners participating, reveals Nachiket Shetye, founder of Cellar Door, the company organising the event. “DineFest is a reflection of current dining trends in the country, where restaurateurs are experimenting with interesting concepts in the informal dining space and providing gourmet experiences without breaking the bank. The August event will allow diners the chance to discover as well as experience dining at restaurants they may not be familiar with and will feature some new restaurants compared to the last round,” he says.
With over 15 restaurants from the city participating, the curation process has to begin well in advance says Nachiket. “The process of curating the menu begins three months prior to the fest,” he explains. “We get foodies from the city and people we know who prefer eating out often to select a list of 10 best restaurants in their city and later collate the data from each one of them. We then go to restaurants and ask them to curate the menu especially for DineFest. We haven’t restricted ourselves to just Asian or Indian cuisine and hence we have a variety of options.” Bon appetit, Mumbai!
