A 23-year-old man was brutally murdered by his rivals after an argument in Northwest Delhi’s Ashok Vihar on Wednesday.

The deceased was stabbed multiple times and his head was smashed with bricks by a group of four men, one of whom was arrested, while the others fled from the spot.

The police said that the killers had come to settle scores with his brother but when his younger brother intervened, he was attacked by the accused persons and that too in full public view.

The police said that the victim, Sunil Prakash, was a daily wage labourer and had shifted to Delhi two years back to help his elder brother financially.

The killers had an argument with Sunil’s elder brother Subhash (29) over a girl. After Subhash came back home, the four accused reached his residence and started calling out to him.

Subhash told the police that he had asked Sunil not to go out as they were dangerous people, but Sunil insisted on going out, saying that he wanted to settle matters between the two parties. However, things heated up and instead of settling the matter, the main accused, Azhar, pulled out a knife from his pocket and started stabbing Sunil on his face.

By this time most of the people from the neighbourhood had gathered around the area. When the killers saw people approaching them, they immediately fled from the area while one of the locals called up the police, soon after which they reached the spot.

One member of the gang, Neeraj, who was hiding in a park was arrested by the police.

The police said that other members of the gang fled from the spot and are still absconding. They are investigating further and are trying to nab the other accused persons.
