Youth Congress: Doordarshan ignored Indira Gandhi event
Alleging ‘’saffronisation’’ of public broadcaster Doordarshan, several Youth Congress workers on Saturday staged a protest outside its office at Mandi House, claiming that it ‘’ignored’’ the coverage on the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s martyrdom, even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted his tributes to the departed leader.
A large number of Congress workers held a demonstration outside Doordarshan’s headquarters, armed with banners and placards, shouting slogans against Mr Modi.
The Congress workers accused Doordarshan of playing into the hands of the RSS and the BJP and alleged that the programmes in remembrance of Gandhi were skipped deliberately to appease the government of the day.
Earlier on Sunday morning, the police citing security concerns had not allowed Youth Congress workers to take out the “Sashakt Bharat Yatra”, a rally to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and the martyrdom day of Indira Gandhi. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 31st death anniversary.
“Tributes to the former Prime Minister of India, Mrs Indira Gandhi, on her death anniversary,” the Prime Minister tweeted. Earlier, addressing a gathering on the National Integration Day to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Mr Modi also remembered former Prime Minister Gandhi, saying she sacrificed her life on this day and it cannot be forgotten.
