Thrown on the road from the balcony of her second floor flat by her alleged stalker on Monday evening, a 23-year-old woman from Outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri is battling for life. The girl, a beautician, has been identified as Ruchi.
Ruchi’s family has alleged that for the past one year he had been stalking her and keeping a watch on her movements. This, after she told him to stay away from her after a brief courtship that ended with Ruchi’s parents disapproving the accused Amit, they added.
The police has arrested 30-year-old Amit and said more arrests are likely as he was accompanied by three other members of his family when he visited the victim’s house at the time of the incident.
Ruchi’s brother Nikhil said that on Monday evening around 6 pm Amit along with his two sisters and a nephew arrived at their house.
“When the incident happened I was on my way home. As the four had visited my shop earlier with the demand to either get Ruchi married to Amit or pay Rs 1 lakh just before going to our home, I smelled something foul. My fears proved right when I reached home and saw a bleeding Ruchi and my weeping mother next to her, right below our house,” he said.
Family members had locked the guests inside the house while they went downstairs meaning Amit and his family did not get a chance to escape, added Nikhil.
“They, however, started screaming that the girl fell on her own and they were our relatives who wanted to leave. A neighbour opened the door and they started fleeing. Two succeeded but with the help of locals we got hold of Amit and his sister and handed both of them over to the police,” said Nikhil.
A police officer said that a case of attempt to murder and stalking has been registered. “The sister has been detained. We are looking into the role of family members as well,” said the officer.
Amit’s family members had claimed at the shop that Ruchi owed Rs 1 lakh to Amit but Nikhil said it was not true. Asked if the provision for Criminal Conspiracy will also be added in the case and whether it was a planned act, the police said it did not appear to be one.
