Woman raped on pretext of job offer

A 30-year-old woman was allegedly raped in Southeast Delhi’s New Friends Colony on Friday.

A 30-year-old woman was allegedly raped in Southeast Delhi’s New Friends Colony on Friday.

According to a senior police officer, the accused has been identified as Jagbir Chaudhury, who knew the woman since six months and had promised her a job with a company. The woman, a maid servant, lives in the New Friends Colony area.

“The accused and the woman knew each other from before and would meet often. Jagbir had promised the woman a high-paying job for which the woman kept in touch with him,” said the police official.

On Friday, Jagbir asked the woman to come along with him for a drive around Delhi when he gave her a bottle of chilled juice, which was allegedly spiked because she started feeling dizzy and high soon after she consumed it, the police said.

The accused then drove to a guest house near Jasolla Apollo where rooms can be hired on an hourly basis. “The victim alleged that Jagbir booked one such room and took her there when she was almost unconscious. He then alleged sexually assaulted her,” said the official.

The victim came back to New Friends Colony with the accused, and later that night, registered an FIR under Section 376 IPC at the police station, but on Saturday, when the police asked her to record her statement under Section 164 CrPC in front of the magistrate, she did not want to and went back home saying she was unwell.

“We have received the complaint from the victim and are investigating the matter further by verifying the facts,” said the police officer.
