A 25-year old woman was allegedly abducted and gangraped in a moving car in South Delhi’s Vasant Vihar early on Wednesday morning.
A 25-year old woman was allegedly abducted and gangraped in a moving car in South Delhi’s Vasant Vihar early on Wednesday morning. The incident took place around 3.15 am when the victim, along with her friend, was heading towards Munirka from PVR Priya.
Acting swiftly, the police arrested three men within an hour of the abduction as the victim’s friend had immediately alerted the police about the incident.
The arrested persons were identified as Udit Kumar, Vineet Kumar and Rajvir. Udit, a cab driver, and his brother-in-law Vineet had been partying with their friend Rajvir.
According to the police, the victim, a native of Himachal Pradesh, was walking on a road near PVR Priya in Vasant Vihar along with her friend when she was allegedly abducted by the three men in a car.
“In a statement, the victim’s friend said that they were heading towards Munirka at 3.15 am when three men in a car stopped and offered them lift. When they refused, the arrested accused, she said, alleged pulled her friend inside the car and pushed her away and drove off,” a senior police officer said.
The victim’s friend noted down the car registration number and immediately informed the police. The victim was later abandoned near Poorvi Marg by her abductors.
“The victim’s friend immediately informed the PCR about the incident and also provided the registration number of the car. Immediately, police teams were dispatched on that route and the car’s owner was traced to Geeta Colony with the help of the registration number. The owner said that the car was with his driver Udit and he provided the driver’s mobile number,” said a police officer. On the basis of the mobile number, the police tracked down Udit’s location and the trio were taken into custody from Vasant Vihar, the officer added.
“The woman was taken for a medical examination that confirmed of rape, following which a case was registered and the three men were arrested,” a senior police officer said.
