Bhawna Arora, the woman who was arrested by the Delhi police for throwing ink at Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday while he was addressing a rally, was on Tuesday remanded to 14 days judicial custody by a magisterial court.

Ms Bhawna Arora was produced before the court of metropolitan magistrate Sunil Kumar after the expiry of her one-day police remand. The court remanded Ms Arora to judicial custody after the Delhi police told the court that she was not required for further interrogation.

Ms Arora had thrown ink at Mr Kejriwal at a rally after the completion of government’s odd-even scheme.

“It was a government function and the attack was made during a rally. The attack on the Delhi chief minister was an attack on the democracy. Bhawna should not be released on bail and remanded to judicial custody. This would be a lesson for people not to indulge in such kind of act for cheap publicity,” the Delhi police argued before the court.

The police said the woman could have thrown acid at the CM and people were involved in such incidents only for publicity and it was the high time to teach such persons a lesson. “It’s time to teach them lesson to those who opt such path to garner publicity,” the police said.

Counsel appearing for Ms Arora opposed to the police submission and requested the court to release her on bail. The counsel argued that she had no antecedents and was falsely implicated in the case. The court, however, dismissed the bail plea and sent her to judicial custody.

The Delhi police has lodged a case under Sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the IPC at the Model Town Police Station against Arora.
