To commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and centenary year of Pandit Deen Dayal Up-adhay, the New Delhi Mu-nicipal Council (NDMC) organised “Swachhta Rally” at India Gate and “Swachhta Pledge” at Central Park on Sunday.
Union home minister Rajnath Singh administered pledge to schoolchildren at the function in Connaught Place’s Central Park. He said it was for the first time in Independent India that people are joining hands for a campaign on cleanliness.
Mr Singh claimed that by 2019, the Centre will achie-ve the target of “Swachchh and Swasth Bharat” set by PM Narendra Modi.
“Swachchh Bharat Abhiyan has become a social movement in India and is effectively running across the entire country. It is not an ordinary awareness,” he said.
On the occasion, the home minister inaugurated 14 public toilets utilities, five roll call centres for sanitation workers, scientific disposal of construction and demolition waste in the NDMC area through a remote control. He also facilitated the best “safai seveks”, one male and another female, Resident Welfare Association, Mar-ket Welfare Association and a school for their excellent work in the Swachchh Bharat Mission.
L-G Najeeb Jung, police commissioner Alok Verma and other senior officers of the NDMC were present at the Sunday event.
