Amid controversies on the release of movie Udta Punjab and hoping to make a big impact in Punjab polls next year, Delhi chief minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and his brigade launched a scathing attack against Punjab counterpart Parkash Singh Badal and said the movie aptly shows active involvement of politicians in the prevailing drug menace in the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)-ruled state.
Mr Kejriwal said Punjab’s situation is quite bad as the politicians are freely distributing drugs in the state.
“Watched Udta Punjab. Movie shows politicians running drug rackets, drugs distributed freely during elections. Punjab situation quite bad,” he tweeted.
The chief minister also showered praise on Udta Punjab and said Badals must watch this “powerful film” to see what they have done to Punjab.
“Just watched Udta Punjab. Very powerful. Badals must watch it to see what they have done to Punjab,” the chief minister said in a series of tweets.
After coming under scrutiny of the censor board, Udta Punjab finally hit the screens on Friday and the social media was abuzz with views from celebrities and eminent politicians.
Delhi BJP, meanwhile, on Saturday said that Mr Kejriwal’s concern for drug issue in Punjab is politically motivated and false as he is ignorant towards the sale of illegal drugs and liquor in national capital. Delhi BJP president Satish Updhyay said that Mr Kejriwal’s views on drugs and liquor is as false as his talks on morality and high standards in polity which we saw till he won 2015 Delhi Assembly elections.

Mr Upadhyay said that Mr Kejriwal has tarnished the image of Punjab and Punjabiyat as drug land, but in his own Delhi illegal drug peddling, hookah bars and mushrooming liquor shops chains is at all time high.
Mr Upadhyay claimed that the Delhi government’s excise department has totally failed to check the growth of rave, hookah and liquor culture amongst the youth and the performance of Mr Kejriwal’s deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia’s headed excise department in curbing illegal rave parties or liquor chains are pathetic. “Soon a delegation of Delhi BJP will call upon the Delhi police commissioner to ensure arrangements for stricter check to prevent growth of drug and liquor influence amongst the youth,” said the BJP president.
The CBFC had issued a fresh release certificate to Udta Punjab after the Bombay high court passed the film with just one cut and three disclaimers.
