Two held for stealing diamonds worth Rs 2 crore
The Delhi police on Sunday recovered diamonds worth Rs 2 crore after it was stolen from the car of a jeweller merchant in East Delhi’s Preet Vihar on August 31.
The Delhi police on Sunday recovered diamonds worth Rs 2 crore after it was stolen from the car of a jeweller merchant in East Delhi’s Preet Vihar on August 31.
The police arrested 22-year-old Vinay, alias Ajay, and apprehended one juvenile. The accused has been previously involved in five cases of snatching and theft. They were active members of “puncture gang” operating in East Delhi.
During interrogation, the accused confessed that he along with his juvenile friend was on a white Apache motorcycle near Karkardooma Court when they saw the victim moving in his car with a bag kept on the seat. They started following him and punctured the rear tyre of the car when he reached a traffic signal. Later, when the car owner came out of to call a mechanic to repair the punctured tyre, they broke one of the windows of the vehicle, stole the bag containing the jewellery and fled on the motorcycle.
“After a case under Section 379 IPC was registered at Preet Vihar police station, an investigation team was formed which began collecting the manual and technical information to crack down the case. CCTV footages of cameras installed near the place of the incident were collected and analysed. On the basis of the clues obtained, the team arrested the accused person and one juvenile was apprehended,” said the police.
