An anchor-cum-actor of a news channel was severely injured during Lohri celebrations last week when a neighbour, reportedly in an inebriated condition, hit him with a piece of wood over a parking dispute in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar.

A senior police official said that the incident happened at around 8 pm on January 13. The police official said that 36-year-old victim, Ajay Sethi, associate producer of NDTV show Gustakhi Maaf and anchor-cum-actor in another show Chhupa Rustam, was busy in preparations for his newborn daughter’s first Lohri outside his in-laws’ residence when he was allegedly attacked by one of their neighbours identified as Sachin Bajaj, a real estate dealer.

“The victim was celebrating Lohri when the accused came there in a car. He asked the victim and his family to remove the bonfire that was about to be lit for celebrating the festival. The family refused to do so that led to an argument between the accused and them. It later snowballed into a scuffle,” the police said.

The accused, in a fit of rage, picked up a large piece of wood lying nearby and thrashed the victim and also hit him on his face. Mr Sethi received severe injuries and collapsed to the ground in pain while the accused fled from the crime scene.

Later a PCR call was made and the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment. The doctors attending to him said that he suffered multiple fractures and received 40 stitches. The police has lodged a case in this respect and is looking into the matter.

The victim’s family has alleged that the police was trying to shelter the accused and did not lodge case under relevant sections of IPC, but the police denied their allegations.
