Two friends were killed and another was critically injured when their motorcycle came under wheels of a dumper in west Delhi’s Ranhola in the early hours of Thursday.

Two friends died on the spot after being crushed under the wheels of the dumper and the third was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital.

The deceased were identified as Ram Snehi and Nagendra Mishra, both aged between 22 and 25 years, and residents of Baprola, near Najafgarh, in southwest Delhi. Their friend who survived the accident has been identified as Shiv Kant, 25. Police sources said the three friends were riding the motorcycle without wearing helmets.

The errant driver fled the accident scene along with the vehicle. However, he was later traced and taken into custody by the Ranhola police.

A case of rash and negligent driving for causing death and injuries was registered against him.

Shiv Kant in his statement told the police that he is a labourer and lives with his family in Baprola. On Wednesday night, he and two of his friends had gone to buy food from a restaurant in Kotla Vihar on a Pulsar motorcycle. As the shop was closed, they were returning home empty-handed. “On the way, a speeding dumper truck overtook their motorcycle and took a sudden left turn. Snehi, who was riding the motorcycle lost control as the motorcycle hit the truck,” said the police.
