A two-year-old girl was reportedly found playing near her mother’s corpse in their Outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri home. On Wednesday night, the woman’s husband had allegedly strangled her to death in front of their daughter .
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Anju. Sources said that the accused, Narender, husband of Anju (26) who had been absconding from the spot, was apprehended on Friday. Sources close to the investigation said that the couple often quarrelled over minor issues.
On the night of the incident, Anju had a heated argument with Narender over his illicit relationship with another woman. Enraged over Anju’s questions about the affair, Narender first thrashed her brutally and in a fit of anger he strangulated her to death in front of their two-year-old daughter.
Sources said that the incident came to light on Wednesday night when a neighbour, on finding the door of Anju’s house open saw Anju lying on the floor, unconscious with her daughter sitting near her mother’s body. When the neighbour tried to revive Anju, she found that Anju was dead. The neighbour raised an alarm, gathered others who in turn informed the police. A police team reached the spot where they found the woman dead. To their utter shock, they found a two-year-old baby girl playing near her mother’s dead body. The police said that the body of the woman was taken to the mortuary of a nearby hospital where a post-mortem was conducted
Neighbours informed the police that the couple, who lived on rent in the Mangolpuri area were often heard fighting. Sources privy to the investigation said that Narender had an illicit relationship with another woman. One of the neighbours told investigators that they even heard Narender brutally thrash Anju hours before the heinous incident came to light.
The police said that it had registered a case of murder under appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code at the Mangolpuri police station against the husband.
