Three persons of a family purportedly suffocated to death in southwest Delhi’s Qutub Vihar area.

The police has identified the deceased as 38-year-old Abdul Rehman, his wife Shabana Praveen (35) and their two-year-old son Abdul while Rehman’s mother-in-law Shamina is still undergoing treatment at a city hospital. The victims lived in a rented accommodation in Street No. 11, B block at Hanuman Chowk area of Qutub Vihar.

According to the police, the incident was reported about 2 am on Sunday when Rehman’s relative reportedly made a PCR call about a fire at their residence.

Officials of the fire department said that three fire tenders were rushed to spot and doused the fire in half-an-hour.

The police claimed that late night on Saturday when the family was sleeping, a short circuit took place due to which smoke accumulated in their room, but there was no immediate fire as the rooms may have been closed. “Somehow Rehman’s mother-in-law Shamina came out from the room and shouted for help,” a police official said.

Hearing the shouting, Rehman’s relatives, who lives on the first floor and second floor of the house, came down to the ground floor and made the PCR call.

After receiving the information, a police team admitted all the victims to hospital where Rehman and Shabana were declared brought dead, while their son Abdul also died later.

Rehman worked as a property dealer, while Shabana was a housewife and their two-year-old son Abdul studied at a private school. The police is further investigating the matter.
