Territorial Army jawan kills colleague
In a case of mistaken identity, a 42-year-old Territorial Army constable was battered to death by his colleague in Delhi Cantonment area of southwest Delhi. Additional commissioner of the police, southwest Delhi, Mr Anil Kumar Ojha said the police had arrested the accused Territorial Army constable, identified as constable Devender Mann. The deceased was identified as Sajjan Singh. “It was a case of mistaken identity. Devender had a grudge with an Army soldier and wanted to eliminate him. On Sunday night, Devender was searching for that person and Sajjan was sleeping at their camp. Devender thought the person he was looking for was sleeping over there and he hit Sajjan’s head with an iron rod many times. Sajjan suffered severe head injuries while Devener fled from the crime scene,” said a senior police official. The police was called and Sajjan was rushed to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during the course of treatment. The police lodged an FIR under Section 302 (murder) of IPC and started the investigation. The police got to know that Devender was last seen near the crime scene. He was caught and interrogated by the police, during which he broke down and confessed to his involvement in the murder. He was then arrested. The police has also recovered the rod used in the commission of the crime. According to information, Devender was remanded into 14 days judicial custody.
