A day after snags disrupted Metro services on the red line, the Delhi government on Saturday formed a task force to deal with any technical problem that hits the Metro train services.
Transport minister Gopal Rai made the announcement after a review meeting at the Metro headquarters in New Delhi which was attended by senior Delhi Metro officials.
The minister said that the leaves of DMRC staff have been cancelled during the odd-even period, till April 30.
“Leaves of all Metro officials stand cancelled during the odd-even period. A five-member task force has been formed to deal with any emergency situation,” Mr Rai tweeted.
The snapping of overhead wire at four places between Kashmere Gate and Shastri Park Stations had thrown services on the red line out of gear for several hours on Friday leaving thousands of passengers stranded. The 23-km-long red line connects east Delhi’s Dilshad Garden to Rithala, located in the northwest part of the city.
“A five-member Metro task force has been formed to control any emergency-like situation in the wake of Friday’s technical snag,” Mr Rai said on Saturday.
The “technical slag” slowed services on Kashmere Gate to Dilshad Garden line of the Metro on Friday.
Mr Rai had described the snag as a failure of over-head equipment and set up a three-member panel to investigate the matter.
He also said on Saturday that a special duty chart has been prepared and 20 officials will be deployed to manage crowds at six inter-sectional Metro stations: Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Kashmere Gate, Inderlok, Kirti Nagar and Vishwa Vidyalaya.
Metro train services have now been operating with more coaches and greater frequency for the convenience of commuters, Mr Rai said.
