‘Take strong action against private schools taking donations’
Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly Vijender Gupta has demanded strict legal action against private schools collecting huge donations in the guise of conducting interactive sessions of children and interview of their parents.
In a letter to chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, Mr Gupta said that majority of the private schools, who consider education as a profession, are acting in an arbitrary manner.
All orders and instructions issued by the education department of the Delhi government are meaningless for them.
Mr Gupta, in his letter to the chief minister, wrote that private schools have been ascertaining the financial strength of the parents and collecting huge donations for decades for admission in the guise of interviewing the children and their parents.
“To demand donation for nursery admission behind the curtain is considered an offence. Despite this rule, owners of private schools are still collecting donations. The education department is fully aware of the same, but the officials are mum,” he said.
Mr Gupta alleged that about 2,000 well-known private schools in Rohini, Paschim Vihar, Central Delhi, South Delhi, East Delhi, West Delhi and North Delhi have started conducting interactive sessions and hints are thrown that registration of their children can help them secure admission if they are able to pay the donation as demanded by the schools.
“Some parents told that they have been given time to pay the donation within specific time to ensure admission of their child. Considering the future of their children, parents are compelled to pay several lakh as donation,” alleged Mr Gupta.
